Sunshine
On Day 3, we talked about the importance of sunlight in its role of helping to regulate your circadian rhythm. Today we're going to go a little deeper into the benefits of getting good sunshine daily, and how it goes far beyond just winding your clocks.
What are some of the benefits of sunlight?:
releases nitric oxide (NO) into the bloodstream which relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure (sunlight is a natural calcium channel blocker)
enhances mitochondrial function (the batteries in your cells work better)
speeds wound healing
optimizes hormone levels
protects against melanoma
benefits skin conditions
boosts mood, mental health, and energy
increases serotonin and dopamine
helps alleviate depression
boosts the immune system
creates vitamin D (which also helps protect against other cancers and is important for bone health, cognitive function, and immune function)
helps prevent infectious diseases
protects against myopia and macular degeneration
reduces gut inflammation
With a list like that (and there are plenty more benefits not listed,) it seems pretty silly to think that in the last 50-60 years the sun has suddenly evolved to try to kill us. The truth is, we've evolved under the natural light of the sun for millions of years.
As I said on Day 3, every cell in our body is controlled by light and it’s our modern blue lit technologies, lifestyles, social customs, and cultural beliefs that are really to blame for many of the negative effects attributed to sun exposure.
Let's get right to the video to find out how to optimize your sunlight harvesting potential safely.
